Abstract

The Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, a philosophical cornerstone of Indian thought, offers
timeless wisdom on dharma (duty), morality, and governance. This paper explores the
relevance of the Gita’s teachings to contemporary challenges in politics and morality. By
integrating traditional interpretations and modern scholarly analyses, the study highlights
how the Gita’s concepts can guide ethical leadership, resolve moral dilemmas, and
promote inclusive governance. It underscores the dynamic nature of dharma, viewing it as
a context-sensitive construct rather than a rigid code, making it particularly relevant in
addressing today’s complex sociopolitical issues. Furthermore, the Gita’s emphasis on
selflessness and collective welfare resonates deeply in modern governance frameworks,
where ethical challenges often arise from conflicts between personal gain and public
good. Case studies of leaders inspired by the Gita, such as Mahatma Gandhi, illustrate its
transformative potential in action. Comparative analysis with Western ethical theories,
including deontology and utilitarianism, positions the Gita as a universal guide to ethics
and morality. The review also examines its application in contemporary dilemmas like
corruption, environmental sustainability, and social inequality. By bridging ancient
wisdom with current ethical frameworks, this paper demonstrates the enduring relevance
of the Bhagavad Gita in fostering a just and morally sound society.
